Katherine is an artist and maker from Bozeman, MT.
Having grown up surrounded by the natural world, I find my greatest sources of inspiration in the moss latched onto old trees, the rocks I collect, the rushing rapids of the rivers I call home, the snowflakes sparkling on their descent from the sky… The list goes on.
Finding a home for the odds and ends I collect has become as much a part of my practice as the making itself. I gravitate towards natural materials and fibers such as wool, clay, handmade paper, leather, bone, and hides. My work often intentionally shows the touch of human hands and is made with the thought of how it could be touched, used, wrapped around, held.
When I’m not busy with my hands I can be found in the mountains where I work seasonally guiding the Middle Fork of the Salmon River and hut keeping in the San Juans.
